7 Day Great Wildbeest Migration Safari
Safari Overview:
The Great Wildebeest Calving Migration Safari has been designed specifically to focus on following the Great Serengeti Wildebeest migration during calving from December to April. The areas to be visited are
Lake Ndutu area, as well as the Southern and Central parts of Serengeti National Park where the majority of the wildebeest are usually found. A visit to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater is part of this safari as well.
The Southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas in Tanzania are the best locations for the months of January, February and March to witness thousands of wildebeest spread across the plains grazing on the rich short grass plains. Predator action is at its peak with great sightings of cheetah, lion, hyena and leopard.

Day 0: Arrival in Arusha
A staff member of Falme Africa Safaris will
pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). From here, you
will be driven to a hotel in Arusha and brief you on your upcoming safari.
Enjoy a relaxing night before beginning your adventure tomorrow!
Arusha is a city in East Africa’s Tanzania, is regarded by many visitors as
little more than a necessary stopover before their safari starts. It is located at the base of volcanic Mt. Meru. It’s a gateway to
safari destinations and to Africa’s highest peak Mt. Kilimanjaro, lying some
100 kilometers northeast. To the west lies Serengeti National Park.

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, we’ll drive to
Tarangire National Park. We will explore the park by having game viewing drives
to maximize your chances of more wildlife. Before sunset, we’ll drive to a
small town of Karatu for dinner and overnight.
Tarangire
is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania after Ruaha, Serengeti, Mikumi,
Katavi and Mkomazi. Activities will include a wildlife game drive where you can
see rare antelope species such as the oryx and
generuk You may also see pythons climb trees, as well as lions and
leopards and among others. For the bird lovers, both
migrant and native bird species can be seen during bird watching game drives
including yellow collared lovebirds, ashy starlings, rufous tailed weavers, bee
eaters, starlings, hornbills, eagles, vultures, hammerkops, ostriches, striped
swallows, plovers, crested francolins among others.

Day 2 : Tarangire – Ndutu Area
After breakfast, we will set off for
Ndutu area situated in the Ngorongoro conservation area, which is part of the
southern Serengeti ecosystem.
Lake
Ndutu like most other rift lakes is alkaline, however, the water is still
drinkable and consumed by a wide array of local wildlife The majority of the
wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December
to April. The area is usually heavily populated with elephant, birds and
resident game.

Day 3: Ndutu – Serengeti Central
You will enjoy a game drive after breakfast in
the Ndutu area exploring a great range of various habitats such as swamps,
woodland, soda lakes and the world famous Serengeti short grass plains. You
will witness herds of wildebeest and zebras especially during a short
time-frame from around February and lasting for about 3 weeks where majority of
the wildebeest calves. Later continue with game viewing while heading to
Serengeti Central for dinner and overnight.
The grass provides little cover and the young makes an easy prey for a variety of
predators. Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they were born and within 3
days, they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd.

Day 4:
Serengeti National Park (Central)
The Serengeti is the largest national
park in northern Tanzania that stretches over 14,763 km2 (5,700 sq. mi).
The Park offers an
exotic game-viewing experience giving you an up-close look of the animals
including big five, The Serengeti is well known for
the largest annual animal migration in the world of over 1.5 million blue
wildebeest and 250,000 zebra along with
smaller herds of Thomson’s gazelle and eland pound the open plains.

Day 5: Serengeti – Ngorongoro
A UNESCO protected World Heritage Site and an International
Biosphere Reserve, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is the largest caldera
in the world
The crater floor is home to tens of thousands of plains
animals, including wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, elands, and a large predator
population of lions, hyena and jackal which can all be viewed at close
quarters. The rare black rhino can be viewed here, and if you are lucky you can
see cheetah and leopard.
Other attractions in Ngorongoro include, the Olduvai Gorge and Ndutu, the Empakai crater and the
Oldonyo Lengai Mountain.

Day 6: Karatu – Manyara – Arusha
We’ll leave after breakfast and go
straight to Lake Manyara National Park. Later in the afternoon, we’ll drive
back to Arusha.
LakeManyara National Park, offers a compact game-viewing circuit and is one of the
most diverse reserves in the country. The lake itself covers two-thirds of the
park and the Great Rift Valley provides a stunning backdrop. The park is famous
for tree climbing lions and also it has large elephant
population. The soda ash lake attracts thousands of pink hued flamingos, over 400 species of
birds which can be found in the Manyara, as well as other large water birds
such as pelicans, cormorants, and storks.
